Life as a single Mom

This past weekend was really hard. Derryk went up north to go hunting so I got to see what it is like to be a single, working mom. I'm sure it wasn't even close to the same as an actual single, working mom, but it was hard...

Friday (Nov. 18)
Bryden learned how to crawl up stairs today. In this house there are sunken in living rooms, so before this he would be stuck in one room, which was fine with me! Now that he has figured out how to get up stairs he is all over the place. And he doesn't know how to go back down stairs so he has fallen down them a few times. (only 2 steps) Bryden hates when Derryk leaves, he loves his daddy so much. I decided that this weekend would be a good weekend to get Bryden to sleep through the night. He did pretty good. Cried for an hour and a half then went to sleep, then woke up at 6 and I let him cry for 20 minutes, then I grabbed him and put him in Derryk's spot and he went right back to sleep. Pretty good....

Saturday (Nov. 19)
Today I had to work. I got up got ready, got Bryden ready, we had breakfast, and we still had plenty of time to get to the babysitters and to work. So I went out to start my car, and it wouldn't start.... This made me very mad! I don't have a block heater on my car so I couldn't plug it in, and it dropped down to -30! It was freezing!! I called Monica and she came and got me. I dropped Bryden off at Derryk's Aunts house and then Monica dropped me off at work. Work was pointless for me today because it was so cold that no one wanted to leave their house so it was dead!! It wasn't even worth going to work because I had to pay my babysitter and I ended up only making a little bit of money. After work Brittanie (Brock's girlfriend) was kind enough to let me use her car for the rest of the night. I went to Bekah's to get Bryden and hung out there for a little while. Bryden did really well there so that made me happy. Then we came home and did our normal routine. Bryden didn't take a nap today which made him super grumpy at the end of the day, and I was tired and not having the best day so I didn't have a lot of patience. Normally Derryk is home and he deals with Bryden when I am not wanting to. Lets just say I was glad when Bryden was finally in bed. I cleaned the house a little bit then crashed. Bryden slept really well tonight. He woke up and fussed for about 20 minutes then he fell back asleep and didn't wake up again.

Sunday (Nov. 20)
Since I was stranded I didn't go to church. Derryk was going to be home tonight so I wanted to have the house nice and clean and dinner ready and all that.. Trying to be a good wife. It is very hard trying to clean when you have a baby crawling around getting into everything!! Since he only started crawling a few weeks ago I haven't baby proofed the house, so there was a lot he was getting into that he shouldn't be getting in to. We have a play pen for him but he didn't want to sit and play in there, he wanted to crawl around and go exploring. It took me a lot longer to clean than what it usually does. I was able to make cup cakes, get dinner in the oven, shower, get ready, and have the house clean all before Derryk got home. I am very glad to have Derryk back. Bryden is such a good baby, but he has his moments when he is a little turd and it drives me insane. I am so grateful to have Derryk to help me out when I need it. He is an amazing Dad and husband. Bryden was very excited to have his Daddy home too. When Derryk pulled up I lifted him up and said, "Look! Daddy's home!!" He started waving his arms and kicking his legs like crazy, smiling and babbling. I let him down and he crawled toward the door saying, "Dada dada dada" When Derryk walked in he got a huge smile on his face and crawled as fast as he could over to him. Bryden didn't wake up until about 6 this morning and fussed for a while then went back to sleep.. so he is basically sleeping all night.. YAY!

On top of all of this I had a little 'thing' with my boss. It made me extremely frustrated and mad. I had decided to go back to work while Derryk was on afternoon shift so I could finish my hours and get my license. I had only worked one week and this was going to be my next week. Anyway, after my conversation with her Friday night I decided I was not going to work again until my maternity leave was over. When I told her this she was very immature and has been since. I asked her today (Monday) if I could color Monica's hair on the 29th, and her response was, "No. From now on you can do hair at home. When you come back to work you can do it." I am FURIOUS with her! I would LOVE to go up to her and tell her off. I am working very hard at restraining myself from doing this.
We also have a massive hydro bill that has to be paid by December 5th and we aren't sure how we are going to do that... but oh well! I guess we'll figure it out.. This doesn't put me on a very good track for my birthday tomorrow. Well, hopefully it doesn't suck too bad.... doesn't look good with how things are going so far.

That is my little rant.. Hopefully things are better very quickly.

Edmonton

We were able to go to Edmonton on the long weekend to visit family. It was so much fun!

Thursday:
We got there around 8:00 pm (Alberta time). Amanda got to Sarah's house at the same time as us. We didn't do much that night, got set up for sleeping and just hung out.

Friday:
Darren wanted us to try the breakfast restaurant Cora's, so we all got ready and when Caitlin came over we got into the cars and went there. It was SO good! The portions were huge so I only ate half of mine. After that we went back to Sarah's house and played mario cart on the Wii for a little bit, then got a few groceries and got dinner ready. Darren taught us how to play Killer Bunnies and that was a lot of fun too. Rad got off work and we had dinner, which was amazing!! Rad and Darren went to chaperon a dance so we got to have a girls night. Watched a couple movies, had junk food, and painted nails. Sarah has a cool nail kit that was really fun to play with.

Saturday:
Bryden doesn't like to sleep when there is a lot going on so he hadn't taken very good naps while we had been there. So when he fell asleep after getting ready this morning we decided it would be best to just let him sleep before we went anywhere. When he woke up we went to West Edmonton Mall. It was super busy there!! I knew it would be busy, but I wasn't expecting that. I got a couple shirts for Bryden. I went into a perfume store and found a perfume I LOVE! Derryk wanted to me to look at watches, so we did that and I found two that I really liked. I can't decide which I like better. We saw a HUGE mastiff while we were at the mall, it was so nice! After the mall I had to get a couple things for Derryk, so we went to Cabela's and then picked up some rims for my car. While Sarah, Darren, and I did that Amanda, Caitlin, and Rad went and waited at Olive Garden for a table. We met up with them there and wait for a long time and finally got a table. I haven't had Olive Garden for such a long time, it was so good. After that we went home and I gave everyone hair cuts and we played killer bunnies then we talked for a while and went to bed. Oh, and Amanda and Sarah made red velvet cupcakes, SO GOOD!!

Sunday:
Sarah and Darren had church at 9:00 so we said bye to them, then Amanda and I had breakfast and I put Bryden down for a nap and then we got packed up and ready to leave. We put a movie on and waited for Jacob to get there. When Jacob got there we packed up the truck and said bye to Amanda and we were on our way! We got home at 7:00 pm. Bryden was so excited to see Derryk. He missed him a lot while we were gone.

That was our fun little trip. I wish it could have been longer, but it was good to see a little bit of my family and for them to see Bryden.

Moving around

Bryden has FINALLY started to crawl and move around a ton. (other than rolling all over the place) He can do a regular crawl for a few steps, then he goes on his tummy and does an army crawl. It is fun watching him get around. In the past few days he has also figured out how to sit up from laying down. He is getting so big!
